Valerie’s face reddened with pain as she struggled to catch her breath.
“What are you talking about? I don’t understand. I genuinely sprained my ankle. If you don’t believe me, you can check for yourself, I wouldn’t lie to you.”

Nathan released his grip, not in the mood to verify her claim.
The most pressing matter was Lucinda’s anger towards him.
He turned abruptly to go after Lucinda, but Valerie caught hold of his sleeve once again.
Instead of speaking softly, she spoke with unwavering seriousness.
“Nathan, you don’t truly know Lucinda. You’re giving your all to love her, but it will only cause you deeper pain. She may be by your side now, but I’m afraid she has never once uttered the words ‘I love you’ to you, ever. Can’t you see that?”
