I took a seat on the sofa and whispered to my friends.
As we were discussing, Elena’s and Dylan’s voices drifted in from outside.
“Great! I can’t wait to see Dad again.”

Knowing it was Jenifer who returned with the two kids, I turned around and glanced at my friends. Needless to say, they understood what I meant.
Rising from their seats, I instructed a servant and said, “Please show my friends to the guest rooms upstairs for some rest. They’re quite worn out.”
The servant complied, leading them upstairs promptly.
As soon as my friends headed upstairs, Jenifer opened the door and entered, holding the hands of the two children.
The children continued to ask, “Grandma, when can we see Mom?”
“Soon,” Jenifer said gently.

I felt a slight sense of relief.

At that moment, the two children spotted me. Their eyes lit up, and they dashed towards me eagerly.
“Dad!” The two children threw themselves at me, their affection palpable. “We’ve missed you so much.”
I hoisted them into my arms, acknowledging Jenifer with a nod, and said, “Mom, thank you for looking after them.”
Jenifer nodded, words unnecessary.
I remained silent, choosing not to divulge my plans.
Even though Jenifer had forgiven Debra, I still had to conceal my plan for a prison break from her. I couldn’t be certain she would support my decision. If she didn’t approve of my actions and the plan leaked out, it could spell disaster.
Debra’s life hung in the balance, I couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.

Jenifer didn’t leave right away after she brought the kids over, like she usually did. Instead, she took a seat on the living room couch, looking like she wasn’t in any rush to go anywhere.
