Chapter 1139

“Strange things?” Deep in thought, I tried to recall.

Patrick’s POV:
Suddenly, a past event came to mind.
A month ago, I, along with the elders of the pack, ventured to a distant area for an inspection. Along a familiar route, we encountered an unusual flower seller.

She was clad similarly to other vendors, but her face was concealed under a tight veil, leaving only her eyes visible, which watched me quietly.
“Would you like to buy a flower, Sir?” she asked in a gentle voice.
“A bouquet, perhaps?”
When she obstructed our path, my guards quickly positioned themselves between us, eyeing the vendor with suspicion.
The vendor seemed taken aback by their reaction, retreating. “I mean no offense, Sir. I only wish to sell a bouquet. Please, there’s no need for any misunderstanding.”
I considered the flowers she offered, but with the inspection pending, carrying them seemed impractical and out of place, so I declined. “I appreciate the offer, but I’m preoccupied at the moment and can’t accept your flowers. Best of luck with your sales.”

Despite her eyes reflecting a tinge of letdown, she didn’t press further and said softly, “In that case, I won’t detain you any longer. Farewell, Sir.”
She started to walk away with her flowers.
Relieved that she wasn’t persistent, I was ready to move on when suddenly, a scream caught my attention-it was the flower vendor.
As I turned my head, I caught sight of the flower girl stumbling over something in the path, tumbling to the ground.
Even though her face was obscured from view, it was impossible to ignore a lady’s fall. So, like anyone else witnessing such a scene, I couldn’t simply look away.

Rushing over, I offered a hand. “Are you all right?”
“I’m fine. Thank you for your assistance, Sir,” she replied, getting back on her feet.
“It was nothing,” I replied, dismissing the gratitude. I was about to continue on my way when she halted me.
“Hold on, Sir,” she called out, presenting a small bouquet from her basket. “For your kindness, please accept this bouquet. It’s small and easy to carry, perhaps even fitting in your pocket.”
As she offered me the bouquet, the scent of the flowers wafted to me.
It was refreshing and refined, almost enchantingly so, bringing a sense of joy and calmness unexpectedly.
I was taken aback.
Never before had I encountered such aromatic flowers.
After a brief pause, I accepted the bouquet and expressed my gratitude. “Thank you; this bouquet is truly remarkable!”
