“Go on then!” Harlan caught her fist and pressed it against his chest, grinning. “Go ahead, hit me hard. Just vent your anger!”
Seeing them banter so intimately, the rims of Danielle’s eyes instantly turned red.
But she blinked her tears back and quietly moved the wheelchair to the side of the table.
Caleb and I exchanged glances, knowing it wasn’t our place to intervene. We remained silent, anticipating what would happen next.

After working with Gale for such a long time, Harlan’s ability was beyond doubt. Knowing he was in charge of the Xeric Pack brought me comfort.
Caleb and I were thinking along the same thought. He gave Harlan a reassuring pat on the shoulder and said, “Harlan, you’ve done a great job. The Xeric Pack is yours to lead now.”
“No problem!” Harlan patted his chest confidently. “You’ve placed the Xeric Pack in my care out of trust, and I won’t disappoint you. You can count on me!”
“Good!”
With a gesture of respect, Caleb reached out and shook hands with Harlan.
Zoe, seated to the side, supported her chin with her hand and watched the exchange with a smile, clearly proud of Harlan.
Since we hadn’t seen each other in a while, our chat naturally turned to everyday things. Then, we had dinner together, chatting and laughing.
