“Answer me quickly!” I demanded harshly.
Caleb’s smile fled as he explained hastily, “Don’t be angry. I just want you to know how it feels when you’ve been denied access to your daughter. Consider this as your punishment for lying to me before. I didn’t mean anything else by it.”

I was so furious that my hands and feet trembled. I could feel my teeth grinding together as I shot death glares at him.
I thought he was going to take Elena away and separate her from me forever.

Caleb smartly changed the topic. “Did Zoe make things difficult for you after you went to the police station?”
I was still upset with him, so much so that I didn’t want to explain anything to him. I grunted and answered coldly, “I have nothing to tell you.”
