Stunned, I was so touched.

I averted my gaze and asked, “Are you trying to be a good father all of a sudden? It’s a little late for that.”

“I’m so sorry, Debra.” Lowering his head, my father spoke in a trembling voice.

I tightened my lips and turned my head away. I didn’t want to accept his apology.
