Remington summoned the manager responsible for today’s Racing Recreation Race, demanding answers, “What’s happening here? How did these end up on the track?”

The manager had never imagined such a mess would go down today.
Glancing at the nails on Hannah’s palm, he stuttered, “We always sweep the track before it opens. Nobody said anything about nails on it.”
Maloney mused, “Could someone have spread these nails on purpose before the race?”

“No chance.”
“No way.”
Hannah and Bryson spoke at the same time.
Their words grabbed everyone’s attention.
Remington shot a cold look at Bryson, asking, “What do you think, Mr. Mitchell?”
“Putting nails out just before the race could easily get caught,”
Bryson responded. “If nails were scattered the day before while cleaning, nobody would suspect a thing.”
Confused, Maloney asked, “Who would the Juarez family be beefing with to pull off such sneaky moves? Are they trying to off Roland?”
“They weren’t targeting the Juarez family,” Bryson clarified.
“What? “
Maloney looked at Bryson. “How can you be so sure?”
Bryson glanced at Hannah. “Miss Moore probably thought the same — you reckon today’s incident was really aimed at the Juarez family?”
With the prying eyes around them, the show had to go on.
Hannah looked calmly at Bryson. “What’s on your mind, Mr. Mitchell?”
“Last night, Mr. Delgado had an ‘accident’ and backed out of today’s race. So, the whole lineup had been shuffled up, minus the Delgados. Imagine if it wasn’t for their bad luck, whose wheels would have met those nails today?”
If things had gone as planned, it would have been Hannah’s ride cruising over those exact nails!
The reality hit hard and it was written all over everyone’s faces.
Maloney turned to Hannah. “Was this aimed at you? No way… He couldn’t believe it. “Who’d hold a grudge against you? The top dogs barely know you — why put you in harm’s way?”
“There’s quite a list, actually.”
“Looks like Miss Moore has stirred up some trouble with those high-fliers, huh?”
