Rhett started the drama, sauntering past Hannah and dropping an icy line. “Watch your step, don’t go breaking a leg!”
His words seemed like a threat and everyone tuned in.
Maloney shot back at Rhett, “Better watch you don’t fall off your horse and get squashed!”
Elsa, all riled up, jumped to Rhett’s defense. “Mr. Pierce, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you wishing harm on my brother?”
“Was your brother cursing Hannah to break her leg?”
Maloney smirked at Elsa. “You really didn’t hear your brother say that? Now you’re his knight in shiny armor?”

Elsa’s cheeks blazed red, tongue-tied with rage.
Meanwhile, Bryson groomed his horse, tuning out the whole mess.
Peterson seemed antsy, sneaking looks at the argument while fussing over his horse.

This was all going down backstage away from the crowd’s view.
Remington had got a vibe something was off when he had spotted Rhett chilling near Hannah. He gestured to a nearby helper.
“Go check on them as the race is about to kick off. We don’t need no drama.”
“Got it, boss.”
Just as tensions peaked, Remington’s crew rolled into the backstage area. “Race’s about to begin, head to your spots and gear up.”
Their timely arrival took the edge off. Everyone guided their steeds to the track.
Hannah’s lane was snug between Elsa’s on the right and Rhett’s on the left. It looked as if it was a setup to test her from both sides.
But she wasn’t fazed.
Hopping onto her horse smooth as butter, Hannah locked eyes with Elsa as she took the reins.
Elsa shot her a look dripping with arrogance. “Hannah, prepare for defeat!”
“We’ll see,” Hannah shot back, sporting a cocky grin.
“Pfft, all the confidence won’t mean squat when you’re eating dirt in front of his family!”
