Handing Ariana the peeled apple and wiping the fruit knife with a tissue, Holden asked, “Why are you suddenly checking Helen’s account? Adrian mentioned that our relationship with her doesn’t seem great.”
Ariana glanced at Helen’s picture before discreetly slipping her phone into her pocket to keep it hidden from Holden.
Taking a bite of the apple, she said, “Helen vanished without a trace five years ago, and there’s been no word since. It just feels odd to me. Based on what I know, she wouldn’t just let you slip away easily. Even if she didn’t know you survived the car accident, she’d surely return to investigate. It’s just not like her to vanish without a trace.”
As Ariana spoke, she remembered how Helen had been obsessed with Holden. “She used to be obsessed with you. She went a bit overboard, faking that her heart disease didn’t heal and ruining her own face to keep us apart. You must have really caught her eye.”
Caught off guard, Holden cleared his throat and swiftly switched topics. “Any updates on her whereabouts? Why do you suddenly want to investigate her?”
Hearing that, Ariana hesitated again.

When we tried to consult at the hospital, he claimed the data was gone and refused to share any details, and…”
Shawn paused, and Holden urged, “Continue.”
“He mentioned Miss Edwards,” Shawn said slowly. “He advised me to tell her not to waste her time further.”
Ariana and Holden exchanged silent glances.
