The loud ring startled Stella. She jumped in fear and tossed her phone aside.
Her phone landed two steps below, and continued ringing.
Stella took a long, deep breath before going down to get it.

The screen had cracked in multiple places.
A wave of sadness hit her as she stared at the phone. It would cost a lot to get the screen changed.
An unknown number was on the screen. Who could that be? The person continued calling, waiting for her to pick up.
Stella frowned in annoyance and confusion as she answered the phone.
She didn’t even get the opportunity to say something when the person on the other Line spoke.
“It’s me. Matthew.”
Stella didn’t know how to react; she just stood there for a few seconds before finally replying, “Is there an issue, Mr. Clark? Do you need me to do something?”
Matthew never called her when she was off duty except if there was an emergency at the company.
She became a bit agitated.
“Are you done working?” Matthew asked.

Stella was not expecting him to ask that. But she still answered honestly, “Yes. I’m off duty.”
“ALL right. This is my personal phone number. You can reach me more easily here from now on.”
Matthew got a new number because Stella had the old one, but she knew it as Maverick’s number, not his.
Since she was his wife, he didn’t want to just contact her with his work number alone.
