Sensing that Stella was off-kilter, Miley questioned, “Is something bothering you? Are you worn out from work? Or is something else the matter?”

“It’s nothing,” Stella replied, mustering a forced smile.
“You better head off to the banquet. Don’t be late.”
Grasping Stella’s hand, Miley frowned.
“I can’t just leave you here feeling like this. If you don’t tell me what’s going on, I won’t go at all.”
Miley was resolute.
Stella was aware that Miley was a woman who always kept her promises.
